December was as always a busy month and the school play was a major feature. This year it was the Snowman - based on the original story but with the usual Lakeside additions to ensure evry child could take part in their own way.
We received the report from our recent re-accreditation for the MOVE programme. More details on the Our Approach / MOVE tab. We were very pleased with the report and congratulate Tanis on leading us through this.
Most parents have now signed up for the Marvellous Me ap and are receiving regular WOW moment updates. Parents and staff alike are enjoying this simple means of staying in touch. Still trying to encourgae the lasrt few to join up.
Next week sees the start of our Drama festival . Bamboozle are coming in to present one of their magnificent performances - the Gentle Giant - but also to work with staff over the week to show us how drama can be used to teach those hard to reach pupils - especially those with autism. We are looking forward to parents' cinema on Friday to watch a film of the highlights of the week.
We are starting to plan for our visitors on the Erasmus project who are arriving in June - with students from several of the countries. Tanis and Hannah are planning a week of activities for our studetns to work together.
This has been the most dfficult start to term I have ever known in terms of staff absence. We have had up to 18 people day off work with long and short term illnesses - all genuine!! Staff have worked very hard to maintain safety and education for our pupils and new staff have been thrown in the deep end. Life is slowly getting back to normal. Lynne and Lynnette have done an amazing job of organising cover.
We were re-accredited ( again) with the ICTMark and received some high praise from the assesor. Ian and Tyler worked hard to prepare for the accreditation visit.
We have had another very successful staff training day this term. many of our support staff attended and we have already seen the impact in lesson observations, as staff put new skills into practice.
Cate Bason and I were able to visit a partner school in Poland as part of the Erasmus project. It is a privilege to have these opprtunities to see how special education is planned and taught in the rest of Europe and to share ideas with colleagues from the partner countres. We both had to speak at a n international conference which was a little daunting with our few words of Polish!
We are waiting for a repair to be made to our Apple server and then we will launch the Marvellous Me app - a way of giving parents information anout their child's achievements - their WOW moments.
We will be welcoming Sarah Gregory back to Lakeside towards the end of term. She has started her teacher training with her mainstream module at Applecroft and will return to us and to P1 this term. We look forward to working woth her to obtain her qualified teacher status.
Amazingly we are about to start working on the school Christmas Play - it's The Snowman this year - with the usual Lakeside twists and additons. I hope we see many of you for the production.
We started term with the news that we have been re-accredited with the International School Award. Congratulations specially to Tanis Hannah and Cate - the Erasmus team.
We are shortly to receive a visit from the moderator for the ICTMark for our application for reaccreditation for this quality mark. I hope they can see the important role that technology plays at Lakeside.

Following the success of Lakefest last year we have agreed to have a second festival this year and look forward to seeing lots of people in Saturday 10th.
We welcome a new teacher Charli Osborne (M2) and we are excited to have Sara Gregory embarking on her teacher training with us this year.
Congratulations to Lucy Walton who got married in the summer holidays. In the modern tradition she will not be changing her surname fr school purposes.
We look forward to a new school year - even with the prospect of an Ofsted visit sometime this year!!
On the whole a quiet month.
February saw the opening of Pauline's Interaction Corner. which will be our lasting memorial for our dear friend Pauline Tofts.
Business Enterprise had a very successful Valentine Day's sale of cards and presents.
